Potable Water
Electrochlorination Systems for Potable Water Treatment.
Who we are
Safe, Reliable On-Site Disinfection for Drinking Water
Water Engineers Australia's Oximax™ Electrochlorination Systems provide a safe, efficient and sustainable solution for disinfecting potable water supplies. Using only salt, water and electricity, our systems generate sodium hypochlorite on-site, eliminating the need to transport, store and handle hazardous chlorine gas or bulk liquid chemicals.
Designed for municipal water authorities, regional water utilities, remote communities and industrial facilities, Oximax systems deliver a consistent supply of disinfectant that protects public health while reducing operational costs and improving safety.
Why Electrochlorination for Drinking Water?
Safe drinking water depends on effective disinfection to eliminate harmful microorganisms before water reaches consumers.
Oximax electrochlorination systems generate fresh sodium hypochlorite as required, providing a reliable disinfectant that destroys:
- Bacteria
- Viruses
- Protozoa
- Algae
- Biofilms
- Waterborne pathogens
By producing disinfectant on-site, operators avoid chemical degradation during storage and ensure a consistently effective chlorine solution.
A Safer Alternative to Chlorine Gas
Traditional disinfection systems often rely on chlorine gas cylinders or transported sodium hypochlorite, both of which present safety, handling and logistical challenges.
The Oximax Electrochlorination System offers a safer alternative by producing sodium hypochlorite only as needed.
Benefits include:
- No chlorine gas storage
- Reduced hazardous chemical transport
- Improved operator safety
- Lower environmental risk
- Simplified site compliance
- Reduced chemical inventory
- Continuous disinfectant production
- Reliable residual chlorine control
How Electrochlorination Works
The Oximax system uses a dilute brine solution made from food-grade salt and water.
The brine passes through specially designed electrolysis cells fitted with high-performance MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide) coated titanium electrodes. When direct current is applied, sodium hypochlorite is generated and stored in a day tank before being accurately dosed into the potable water supply.
The entire process is fully automated and continuously monitored to maintain the required disinfectant residual.
Applications
Oximax electrochlorination systems are ideal for:
- Municipal drinking water treatment plants
- Regional water authorities
- Rural and remote communities
- Mining camps
- Defence facilities
- Hospitals
- Universities
- Food and beverage manufacturing
- Hotels and resorts
- Commercial developments
- Caravan parks
- Remote Indigenous communities
- Emergency water treatment systems

Typical Treatment Process
- Food-grade salt is dissolved to prepare a brine solution.
- The brine is fed into the Oximax electrolysis cell.
- Electrolysis generates fresh sodium hypochlorite.
- The disinfectant is stored in a day tank.
- Metering pumps inject the sodium hypochlorite into the treated water.
- Online instrumentation continuously monitors chlorine residual and adjusts dosing automatically to maintain water quality.
