Wastewater & Recycled Water Treatment
Australian-engineered electrochlorination systems delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective disinfection for wastewater and recycled water applications.
What we do
Safe, Sustainable Disinfection for Water Reuse Applications
Water Engineers Australia's Oximax™ Electrochlorination Systems provide a safe, reliable and environmentally responsible solution for disinfecting wastewater and recycled water. By generating fresh sodium hypochlorite on-site using only salt, water and electricity, Oximax eliminates the need to transport, store and handle hazardous chlorine gas or bulk liquid chemicals.
Designed for municipal wastewater treatment plants, recycled water schemes, industrial water reuse, mining operations and commercial facilities, Oximax delivers consistent disinfection that protects public health, supports water recycling and helps facilities meet regulatory requirements.
Why Electrochlorination for Wastewater & Recycled Water?
As water becomes an increasingly valuable resource, treated wastewater is being reused for irrigation, industry, agriculture and environmental applications. Effective disinfection is essential to reduce harmful microorganisms before recycled water is safely reused or discharged.
Oximax electrochlorination systems generate sodium hypochlorite on demand, providing reliable control of:
- Bacteria
- Viruses
- Algae
- Biofilms
- Fungi
- Waterborne pathogens
- Odour-causing microorganisms
Freshly generated sodium hypochlorite ensures consistent disinfectant strength while minimising chemical degradation during storage.
A Safer Alternative to Traditional Chlorination
Traditional disinfection systems often require the storage and handling of chlorine gas or transported sodium hypochlorite, increasing operational risks and ongoing chemical costs.
Oximax electrochlorination systems provide a safer and more sustainable alternative.

Benefits of Oximax™ Electrochlorination
Reliable Disinfection
Fresh sodium hypochlorite provides highly effective disinfection, reducing harmful microorganisms before reuse or discharge.
Lower Operating Costs
Generating disinfectant on-site reduces the ongoing cost of purchasing, transporting and storing liquid chlorine products.
Enhanced Safety
By eliminating chlorine gas cylinders and reducing bulk chemical storage, Oximax significantly improves operator and site safety.
Supports Sustainable Water Reuse
Reliable disinfection enables treated wastewater to be safely reused, reducing demand on valuable potable water supplies.
Fully Automated Operation
Integrated PLC controls automatically regulate disinfectant production and dosing based on plant demand, reducing operator intervention and improving consistency.
Built for Continuous Operation
Oximax systems are engineered for 24/7 operation in demanding municipal and industrial environments.
How Oximax Electrochlorination Works
A dilute salt solution is prepared using food-grade salt and water before entering the Oximax electrolysis cell.
Using advanced MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide) coated titanium electrodes, electricity converts the salt solution into fresh sodium hypochlorite.
The generated disinfectant is stored in a day tank and accurately dosed into the treated wastewater or recycled water stream. Online instrumentation continuously monitors chlorine residual and automatically adjusts dosing to maintain optimum disinfection performance.
Engineered for Municipal & Industrial Facilities
Every Oximax electrochlorination system is designed for maximum reliability and long service life.
Features include:
- MMO coated titanium electrodes
- High-efficiency electrolysis cells
- PLC automation
- Touchscreen HMI
- Automatic chlorine production

Typical Treatment Process
- Food-grade salt is mixed with water to create a dilute brine solution.
- The brine enters the Oximax electrolysis cell.
- Electricity converts chloride ions into fresh sodium hypochlorite.
- The disinfectant is stored in a day tank.
- Metering pumps dose sodium hypochlorite into the recycled or treated wastewater stream.
- Online analysers continuously monitor chlorine residual and automatically adjust dosing for consistent water quality.
